Government of Greenland Briefs the Business Community on the Agreement Between Greenland, the United States, and Denmark

Last week, we witnessed the signing of an agreement between the Premier of Greenland (Naalakkersuisut), the President of the United States, and the Prime Minister of Denmark concerning the defense of Greenland. The agreement both updates the 1951 treaty on the same subject and formally incorporates Greenland as a party to the agreement.

Article 4 of the agreement refers to the Greenlandic business community as a potential supplier to U.S. defense activities in Greenland, while Article 10 addresses the parties' shared approach to investments. As such, the agreement contains several elements that are significant for our business sector and, consequently, for our local communities.

As a first step, the agreement must be ratified by Inatsisartut. Following ratification, Naalakkersuisut wishes to initiate a dialogue with the business community on the agreement's content, implications, and opportunities. Sulisitsisut is in close dialogue with Naalakkersuisut and will assist in facilitating this process.

We look forward to accepting Naalakkersuisut’s invitation to engage in dialogue and will, together with the relevant department, help convene the appropriate meeting(s) following ratification.

We will keep you informed through our various communication channels. Should you have any questions regarding the agreement, you are always welcome to contact us at ga@ga.gl.
