Greenland Business Association and the local branch in Sisimiut support Greenlandic participation at Skills 2026

23. April 2026

Greenland Business Association (Grønlands Erhverv) and its local branch in Sisimiut are joining forces to support Greenlandic participation at the Danish National Skills Competition (DM i Skills) 2026, which will take place in Hjørring from April 22–25, 2026. The aim is to strengthen the visibility of Greenlandic professional skills, craftsmanship, and business culture, and to inspire young people to pursue vocational education.

DM i Skills is Denmark’s national championship for students in vocational education and training, bringing together around 300 competitors as well as thousands of visitors. For the first time since before COVID-19, KTI Sisimiut will once again officially participate in the Skills framework. KTI is a partner school of the vocational college in Hjørring, providing a natural foundation for Greenlandic participation.

Greenlandic workshops rather than competitions

Greenland’s participation in 2026 will focus on knowledge sharing and communication rather than competition. With support from the Department of Education under the Government of Greenland (Naalakkersuisut), which has granted DKK 500,000, a total of 17 participants from Greenland will travel to Hjørring. The group includes:

  • Apprentices from KTI Sisimiut
  • Apprentices from Nuuk and the Service School
  • A participant from Royal Arctic Line

The Greenlandic participants will host workshops for Danish young craftsmen, sharing knowledge on topics such as Arctic construction, materials, methods, and practices within carpentry and painting trades.

Entrepreneurship and culture as part of Skills

In addition to apprentices and instructors, a young carpenter from Sisimiut who has started his own business will participate. He will share his experiences as a young craftsman and entrepreneur in Greenland.

Furthermore, a couple of young hunters will take part and build a traditional Greenlandic kayak on-site during Skills. In this way, craftsmanship, entrepreneurship, and culture will be brought together in a cohesive narrative about Greenlandic competencies.

Support from Greenland Business Association

KTI Sisimiut and Uagut will participate with a joint stand at Skills. Through their engagement, Greenland Business Association and its local branch in Sisimiut aim to support the initiative and help ensure the best possible framework for Greenlandic participation. Chairman of Greenland Business Association’s local branch in Sisimiut, Maannguaq Philip Lauritzen, states:
“Through Greenland Business Association’s contribution, we want to support new local talents. It is important for us to work towards fostering a talented next generation of craftsmen who will ensure that Greenlandic business continues to develop strongly.”

At the same time, efforts are underway to highlight the initiative Suleqat pisinnaasoq / Colleague with determination in connection with Skills, through presence and dialogue with visitors. Skills is seen as a strong showcase for vocational education, labour market inclusion, and social responsibility.

Greenland Business Association views participation in Skills 2026 as an important step in strengthening the attractiveness of vocational education, promoting the recruitment of skilled labour, and increasing awareness of Greenlandic craftsmanship and business—both in Greenland and internationally.
